“At Berlitz, we don’t focus on just grammar and textbooks. It’s real world conversation and it’s real world usages. It’s things that people can actually use and things that they’re interested in, and we tailor it to fit their particular life, so it makes it more fun, more interesting for everyone involved, the teacher and student."

My name is Valerie Barbero. I work for the St. Louis Center and I’ve been working for 3-1/2 years.

I enjoy most about teaching the progress that I see. It’s the development and the real-world usage that our students learn, and I enjoy the questions and the challenges that they, that they have.

At Berlitz, we don’t focus on just grammar and textbooks. It’s real world conversation and it’s real world usages. It’s things that people can actually use and things that they’re interested in, and we tailor it to fit their particular life, so it makes it more fun, more interesting for everyone involved, the teacher and student.

One of my favorite times that I was teaching a student, I was teaching a five-year-old girl English. She was a total beginner, and one day she came home from preschool and she was just telling me about her day, which it was a pretty neat little story about how she was coloring pictures, and how it was a picture of a dog, and a cat, and a tree and a sun and.

But I realized at the end of her story that I had completely understood what she had said. It was logical, it was in sequence and it was complete sentences, so it was pretty amazing. This was maybe about three months after teaching her, so it was a fun time for me as a teacher.
